the Wild Columbine (Aguilegia canadensis)
The Wild Columbine of Ohio is a red and yellow beauty. The foliage is soft, three leaved and pretty. The plant prefers shady to partial sun and moist soils. The natural areas are near lakes and rivers on rocky or sandy areas. They can still be found at Greenville falls in Miami county and areas near the Lake Erie. This is the only Ohio native Columbine, most sold by nurseries are pink or blue and western species. The Wild Columbine only grows to 2-3 feet maximum and is a great flower garden plant and of course Nature's art nursery has dozens growing.
